BUSINESS THUMBS UP FOR TOURISM PRECINCT

Joondalup Business Association members were among the 30% of businesses that responded to a survey conducted by the City of Joondalup regarding the establishment of a Tourism Precinct for the Joondalup City Centre.

The survey, conducted over two weeks in November & December 2007, sought opinions on the subject from a spread of occupations and endeavours in the area which was closely reflected in the range of operators and businesses that responded.

Joondalup Business Association President Russell Crook said the Tourism Precinct proposal was one that the JBA and other stakeholders have been exploring for quite some years and was pleased to be a part of the process.

“The survey questionnaire was circulated to our membership base which included the Small, Special Retail and Filling Stations categories, 89% of which take advantage of operating outside of normal trading hours, and the larger General Retail group which is restricted to opening in Normal Trading Hours only,” Mr Crook said.

“The response in favour was overwhelming from both groups with up to 97% of respondents in support of the introduction of a Tourism Precinct,” he said.

City of Joondalup Director of Governance and Strategy Ian Cowie said the City was very pleased with the response to the survey the results of which illustrate clear support for a Tourism Precinct Designation for the Joondalup City Centre.
