BUY LOCAL IS THE ANSWER SAYS JBA

The Joondalup Business Association says that buying locally will go a long way to staving off any trickle down effects of the global economic crisis.

JBA President Russell Poliwka said that a major objective of the association has always been to encourage government agencies, local authorities, business operators and residents to purchase their needs from local businesses.

“This keeps the money circulating within a defined local area and helps to support business growth and create local employment,” Mr Poliwka said.

“To be able to live, work and shop within a relatively short distance from home is a great advantage as it saves on fares and fuel and creates ownership of the local community,” he said.

“The Buy Local Campaign was successfully marketed in Joondalup in the late eighties through the Wanneroo Chamber of Commerce with a view to supporting newly established businesses. As our community grew this theme was continued under the auspices of the North West Metro Business Association which then became the JBA.

“Since that time our City has grown & developed significantly to what is now the pride of the northern suburbs and it is crucial that we maintain the Buy Local ethic to continue that growth and success,” Mr Poliwka said.

“We will be approaching our members and stakeholder partners including the City of Joondalup, Edith Cowan University and Joondalup Health Campus to help us promote and participate in this important program to ensure that “what we spend in town, stays in town”, He said.
